  • The “Just for Kids” Critical Care Center, comprising the Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Norton Children’s Hospital
  • Norton Children’s Pediatric Intensive Care, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine
  • Norton Children’s Emergency Medicine, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, providing services at Norton Children’s Hospital, Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital and Norton Children’s Medical Center

And, we provide a support network and a beacon of hope for those children’s families at a time when it’s needed most. As the need for this specialized care continues to grow, we’re embarking upon a visionary growth plan to further transform and improve the delivery of critical care within our community and beyond. Our Journey to Excellence
Norton Children’s critical care and trauma care teams include fellowship-trained and board-certified pediatric intensivists who specialize in pediatric critical care medicine, as well as pediatric critical care nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dietitians and others who deliver care within specialized facilities.

The Norton Children’s Hospital PICU, part of our “Just for Kids” Critical Care Center, cares for over 2,200 critically ill and injured children per year. In the PICU, the critical care providers work collaboratively with pediatric surgeons, neurosurgeons and other surgical subspecialists; as well as pediatric subspecialists, including oncologists, nephrologists and others, to provide a multidisciplinary team to care for these children.

Our NICU teams are dedicated to caring for newborns with some of the most complex conditions at a Level III neonatal intensive care unit at Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital and a Level IV NICU (the highest rating) at Norton Children’s Hospital. The recently renovated Level IV NICU has 101 beds, making it one of the largest in the country.

The recent opening of the Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac CICU at Norton Children’s Hospital continues a legacy of advanced pediatric heart care in Louisville. This state-ofthe- art facility has 17 private rooms, including three for newborns, and is the largest dedicated CICU in Kentucky. Norton Children’s Hospital has been verified as Pediatric Ready by the Kentucky Pediatric Emergency Care Coalition and is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma certifies that Norton Children’s Hospital can provide the best care for the most severely injured children 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Critical investments in facilities, workforce, and research will ensure that our community remains home to premier pediatric critical care and trauma care centers of excellence well into the future. Through this comprehensive campaign, we have the opportunity to transform care for the children of our communities. We invite you to make a philanthropic investment that will leave a lasting legacy and ensure the future of world-class pediatric care — right around the corner.
